161. Longines, pocket watch, Art Deco

Longines pocket watch, Art Deco/ Nouveau dress watch, produced in 1926, Caliber 18.79 movement, with creme coloured dial, Silver 925 case, with Silver chain.

Ernest Francillon  modernized  production of watches and believed that bringing  assembly together into a factory would be a more efficient method of production. To accomplish this, Francillon built a factory on a piece of land, "Les Longines",  and the Longines brand was born.This method of production became very successfull, and in the early 1900's the Longines factory employed over 1000 people,  worldwide distrubution,  and successfull until today.  The Winged Hourglass Longines logo first appeared on Longines watches around 1867.
